FARGO (KFGO-AM) An independent committee set up to review the Fargo Police Department's disciplinary policies, procedures and morale, meeting for the first time Thursday, wants the review to be as open as possible but at the same time, protect the identities of officers and others who will questioned during their investigation without violating the state's open records law. Committee chair Brian Berg says they want to protect the confidentialty of those who have something say without fear of retribution.
The committee has yet to work out details on how those interviews will be handled and who they will question.
Police Chief Keith Ternes and the head of the police department's professional standards office will meet with the panel at its next meeting, October 17th.
City leaders called for the review after complaints about Ternes' management and poor morale. Ternes said he welcomes the investigation. The committee says the work may take 3 to 6 months to complete.
