Valley City, N.D. (AP) Authorities say a semitrailer crash that snarled traffic on Interstate 94 near Valley City last week caused extensive damage. The crash on Wednesday took out a bridge guard rail and spilled barley into the ditch. It forced the shutdown of one lane on the interstate.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation says that engineers are investigating whether there is any significant damage to the bridge as well. The state agency says it could be weeks before repairs are made.
Authorities say 46-year-old Terry Johnson was driving the semitrailer. They say the Valley City man later crashed a pickup truck into a pole in a hotel parking lot in the city.
The station reports Johnson is in custody facing various drug charges. It's unclear whether he has legal representation.
