MOORHEAD (KFGO-AM) -- Fire has heavily damaged a south Moorhead townhouse. The fire, at 3541 10th St., was reported by a neighbor at around 4:30am Saturday.
Asst. Fire Chief Greg Doeden says flames spread up the vinyl siding quickly and had reached the roof of one side of the townhouse as the first engine was arriving. He says the roof of the unit where the fire started is gone and there's significant damage throughout. A fire-wall helped keep the fire from spreading to the adjoining unit. Investigators believe a cigarette was the probable cause of the fire. Damages are put at $105,000.
Doeden says the two residents living in the townhouse with the most serious damage will be displaced for some time.
The Red Cross and Salvation Army responded to the scene along with one Fargo fire truck, which is routine when Moorhead fire responds to an occupied structure fire where a rescue is a possibility.
There were no injuries.
