Fargo, N.D. (AP) The North Dakota Board of Higher Education has scheduled a special meeting to set its course after residents vote on the future of the board.

North Dakotans will be asked to decide next month whether to replace the current eight-member, part-time board with the proposed three-member, full-time commission.

University system officials say if the ballot measure passes, the board will have to apply to the higher learning commission for a change in governance. If the initiative fails, the board will begin the process of hiring the next chancellor.

Former Bismarck State College President Larry Skogen has been serving as interim chancellor.

The board, which held its regular monthly meeting Thursday in Fargo, approved the special meeting for November 6th in Bismarck.
