FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- Police are working to identify suspects involved in a violent break-in at a home in Countryside Trailer Court in south Fargo early Thursday.

Lt. Joel Vettel says officers responded to a report of several people breaking into the trailer through a back window. They got into the trailer and were confronted by a Pit Bull that was in the trailer. He says they stabbed the dog several times and then fled, vandalizing a home and a car outside. The suspect's also tried to set fire to some furniture.

Two teenage boys in the trailer at the time of the break-in were not hurt. The Pit Bull's injuries were so severe it had to be put down by a veterinarian.

Vettel says the incident stems from an on-going dispute that has escalated between two groups who live in the neighborhood, and involves some people with known gang connections outside the F-M area.

The incidents are of such concern that police have increased patrols through the area in recent weeks.
