MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO) - One of five people serving on an independent panel investigating the policies of the Fargo Police Dept. says he thinks the findings will have a positive impact on the department's future.

Former North Dakota Highway Patrol Superintendent and U.S. Marshal Brian Berg says he accepted the job with an open mind--and considers the panel's work a "serious" task.

“The community has some concerns and the police department wants to be very open about this”, according to Berg. “I think sometimes asking someone to take a look at different things is very positive.”

Berg is currently employed as the Clay County administrator in Moorhead.

The Fargo City Commission approved the panel after Police Chief Keith Ternes was criticized by former officers for his management style.

Commissioners also approved hiring a consultant to conduct confidential interviews.
