CASSELTON, ND (KFGO AM) -- The NTSB has more answers on Monday's train derailment and fire in Casselton.

Preliminary analysis shows that the grain train was traveling 28 miles per hour before derailing while using emergency brakes.

The oil train was going about 42 miles per hour and hit the derailed grain train.

It was less than a minute before the explosive impact.

The NTSB says signals around the crash site were working properly.

Board member Robert Sumwalt says investigators were able to look at video from the end of one of the locomotives.

A broken axle has been found and will be studied to see if it played a role in the derailment and crash.

The NTSB is in the very early stages of its investigation.
