Ambulance Service In Jeopardy In Small ND Town

Carson, N.D. (AP) A small North Dakota town could lose its ambulance service because of a shortage of volunteers.

Carson in southern North Dakota no longer has enough emergency medical technicians to keep its ambulance service licensed. That means the ambulance service can't transport patients anymore.

The town has one driver and three volunteer EMTs who can provide on-scene treatment until a licensed ambulance from another area arrives and transports the patient elsewhere.

Grant County Deputy Sheriff John Foss says Carson needs an ambulance because the town has an elder population and several industries.

The station reports the town needs at least nine more volunteers to have the ambulance service re-certified. Officials are offering to pay for the volunteers' training and possibly hiring full time EMTs.
