Bismarck, N.D. (AP) Secretary of State Al Jaeger wants more funding and staff to process increasing piles of paperwork spurred by North Dakota's oil-driven economic prosperity.

April Fairfield is Jaeger's Democratic opponent in the November election. She says workload problems at the agency are largely self-inflicted by Jaeger. She says the agency has suffered mismanagement and a decade-long delay in a multimillion-dollar technology project that would allow routine paperwork to be filed online.

Jaeger says he's doing a good job. He says the project has been delayed due to financial issues from the company originally hired to do the work. He says problems with the system are out his control.

Jaeger says he wants to hire six more workers at the agency to handle the additional workload.
