FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- The Democratic candidate for North Dakota tax commissioner says he would resign if he was facing the same issues as his opponent.
Republican Tax Commissioner Ryan Rauschenberger has taken a temporary leave of absence for alcohol treatment and says he will return to the job in a few weeks.
Democratic candidate Jason Astrup says he's waiting for the facts to come out surrounding Rauschenberger's alcohol addiction and the sequence of events that led to his absence. However, Astrup says if he was in Rauschenberger's position, he would "seriously consider stepping down'' to focus on getting better.
Astrup was in Fargo Tuesday to announce a new tax credit proposal.
