CASSELTON, N.D. (KFGO-AM) A close encounter with a cow sent a Cass County deputy to a Fargo hospital for treatment of bumps and bruises.
The deputy had responded to a crash involving a car and the cow around 3 a.m. Monday, on I-94, a mile west of Casselton. Sheriff's department spokesman Corporal Jade Van Den Ide says as the deputy was doing traffic control to make sure no other vehicles hit the animal, the injured cow charged the deputy, hitting and knocking him to the ground. As the deputy got up, the animal charged him again. The deputy drew his gun and shot and killed the cow.
The car involved in the crash was totaled. The driver was not hurt.
