FARGO (KFGO-AM) - A Moorhead man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and 18 months of supervised probation after pleading guilty to a counterfeit scheme.
Dennis Merritt, 32, pleaded guilty to charges of passing counterfeit $50 dollar bills at Fargo convenience stores and fast food restaurants.
Lt. Joel Vettel says Merritt was identified as a suspect through surveillance video and facial recognitiion software and a warrant was issued for his arrest August 1. He was arrested 2 days later.
Vettel says the bills were also passed in other area towns. Assistant Cass County States Attorney Reid Brady says restitution has not yet been resolved.
