FARGO, ND (KFGO AM) -- A KFGO listener who won the winning bid on a rare, 1873 gold coin has donated the coin to the Salvation Army.

The listener purchased the coin during a bidding competition on KFGO Wednesday for $5,500.

The coin was donated by Fargo parts and equipment, and all of the money raised went to the Ronald McDonald House.

Our listener wasn't done yet.

He then asked KFGO to donate the coin to the Salvation Army.

Army Major Byron Medlock accepted the coin from KFGO's Shawna Olson at West Acres last night, who was ringing the bells for the Salvation Army.

The coin is valued at about $2,000, so all in all, our listener donated $7,500 to the Ronald McDonald House and Salvation Army.
