FARGO (KFGO-AM) - Fargo voters will be asked to approve a 50-cent increase in the monthly 911 fee assessed to their phone bills. The fee is now $1. The tax revenue goes to fund the Red River Regional Dispatch Center.
City Finance Director Kent Costin says increased operational costs, a loss of landline phone fees and other factors will leave the center with a $630,000 deficit this year.
Costin also recommended an $800,000 transfer from the general fund to help offset the funding gap.
City Administrator Pat Zavoral said he has also discussed a county wide vote on the 911 fee with Cass County officials. Details on that proposal are still in the works. A decision will have to made by early September to get the question on the November ballot.
