MOORHEAD (KCND) - American Crystal Sugar President Dave Berg says preliminary test results show the late, cool and wet spring planting season has hurt the beet crop in many parts of the Red River Valley.
He says beets may have lost a month of growing season because of the bad weather. Berg says early test results don't look good. He says last year it was a challenge to get good weight and sugar content, and at 23-tons per acre, the results from this year will be lower.
Berg predicts growers will be 10% to 15 % under what Crystal's target or average should be.
