FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- A name change for a local animal shelter. The Humane Society Fargo-Moorhead is now known as "Homeward Animal Shelter". Director Nukhet Hendricks says the name change is meant to clarify that the non-profit is a locally run shelter that doesn't receive any funding from national organizations.
Hendricks says "this is the first stop for these animals before they are home, and therefore homeward. This is where they take a respite and let us love them and get them ready for their new home and then they are on their way to their new home".
"Homeward Animal Shelter" will also offer additional services such as training while dogs are being sheltered. Last year the shelter rescued more than 800 animals in the F-M area.
The shelter relies on community donations to rescue, shelter, protect and re-home animals. For more information you can check out their new website at www.homewardonline.org
