Tornadoes confirmed in northern Red River Valley

GRAND FORKS (KFGO-AM) - National Weather Service survey teams say two tornadoes touched down in the northern Red River Valley as severe thunderstorms swept through Monday night.

An EF-2 tornado, with wind speeds over 120 mph touched down near Eldred, Minnesota, south of Crookston and ended in Red Lake County 27 miles away. It caused significant damage to some some farm buildings, shelter belts, power lines and laid 17 empty rail tanker cars on their side.

An EF-1 tornado, with 90 mph winds touched down for 8 miles in Grand Forks County, west of Grand Forks. It tore up shelter belts. a few rural homes and farm building's were also damaged. One farm building collapsed.
