MOORHEAD (KFGO-AM) -- An about-face by the Moorhead City Council over a proposed housing complex for the homeless.
After earlier unanimously approving a resolution opposing the project, council members Monday night voted to repeal the resolution. The vote was not unanimous. Mayor Del Rae Williams cast the tie-breaking vote that reversed last week's resolution.
Council Member Brenda Elmer noted the city has no authority to stop the Churches United project. The non-profit owns the 10 acre building site on 34th St. north and the complex meets zoning requirements.
Council member Steve Gehrtz remains opposed to the project at the site, saying Churches United has not been upfront with city leaders.
The planned project has come under fire from many residents of two nearby housing developments.
