WEST FARGO (KFGO-AM) - Fire heavily damaged the historic St. Johns Lutheran Church on the grounds of Bonanzaville Pioneer Village in West Fargo
The fire was reported just before 4:30 saturday morning. Fire Chief Roy Schatschneider says there is "severe fire damage" in the front portion of the church
Flames were visible on the main floor of the wooden church when fire crews arrived on scene and the fire spread into the high steeple. Crews used a ladder truck to get at the flames that were clearly visibile from some distance.
Schatschneider says firefighters found the basement steps destroyed but he says they're not sure if that's where the fire started. Investigation is underway to determine a cause.
Bonanzaville board of directors chairman John Monilaws says the village is open for business as usual this weekend.
