MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Helping send Derek Jeter out a winner in his last All-Star game appearance, Mike Trout drove in two runs with a triple and a double to lead the American League past the National League 5-3 on Tuesday night.
Jeter started his 14th and final midsummer gathering of the game's best with a vintage opposite-field double, following an ovation from the Target Field crowd of more than one minute. The Yankees captain went 2 for 2 and was removed to another roar from the fans in the top of the fourth inning.
Max Scherzer picked up the victory with a scoreless inning, and Twins closer Glen Perkins pitched a perfect ninth for the save in front of his home crowd to again give the AL home-field advantage for the World Series.
Another hometown favorite, Pat Neshek, took the loss for the NL.
Miguel Cabrera homered for the AL.
