MOORHEAD (KFGO-AM) - Moorhead Mayor Del Rae Williams is concerned local opposition to Churches United proposal for an apartment complex for the homeless may sink the plan.
Those who live near the proposed project on 34th Street, north of Cashwise Foods packed a city council meeting to protest the location, the third time they've made an appearance.
Council members then voted unanimously on a resolution opposing the project. Williams supports the plan. She worries local pushback may endanger Churches United pending application for a $6 million grant from the State Housing Finance Agency.
The council's vote won't stop the project because it meets zoning requirements. Churches United has said the 41-unit building is an apartment and not a shelter. It will know in October whether the state grant is approved.
