GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO-AM) -- Mosquitoes that carry West Nile Virus have been found in Grand Forks.

The State Health Department says its not an unexpected result given the wet start to the spring and summer. Its the first confirmation of the "Culex Tarsalis" type of mosquito in the state this year.

Late July and early August are usually the peak time for disease-carrying mosquitoes. People are encouraged to use a repellant that contains "Deet." It's also a good idea to wear long sleeves and long pants when outdoors, especially at dusk and in the early morning when mosquito-numbers are the highest.

Last year, 127 people were diagnosed with West Nile Virus in North Dakota.
