FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- Police have opened an internal investigation into the release of 911 tapes to a media outlet. The recordings are related to the shooting death last week of 28 year-old Randall Doehner at an apartment he shared with Christopher Hampton, 24.
Hampton is accused of shooting Doehner twice in the head. Lt. Joel Vettel says the tapes are part of an active investigation and should not have been released to a Forum reporter.
Vettel says the circumstances of the unauthorized release of the emergency dispatch recordings will be reviewed by Police Chief Keith Ternes who will decide whether to discipline the civilian department employee. Ternes should make a decision on the status of the woman within a week or two.
Hampton remains in the Cass County Jail on $1 million bond. He told investigators that Doehner was trying to poison him.
