FARGO (KFGO-AM) - Dennis Walaker says this is still his town. He was re-elected to a third term as Fargo Mayor, defeating challenger City Commissioner Brad Wimmer with 56% of the votes.
Walaker told KFGO News he never wrote a concession speech. He thought about it, citing General Dwight D. Eisnenhower's decision prior to D-Day to write two speeches, one if the Allied landings were successful and another if the invasion failed. But in the end, Walaker only wrote an acceptance speech, scrawled out on note paper. He said "I had faith in the public."
Walaker said he's "extremely happy " with the win but said that "It's going to take some time to put this election in proper perspective and for some wounds to heal." He was referring to the bitter race that pitted him against Wimmer, a long time friend.
