FARGO (KFGO-AM) - The two candidates for Fargo's hotly contested mayoral race will be covering a lot of ground before Tuesday's election.
Incumbent Dennis Walaker is doing it by jet. He's on a whirlwind trip to Washington to attend the White House signing of the Water Resources Development Act authorizing the F-M Diversion. Gone Monday, back Tuesday night in time to attend what he hopes will a victory party with City Commissioner Tim Mahoney. Walacker acknowledges the outcome will be much closer than he anticipated. He said "Win, lose or draw, I can walk away from this whole thing without any bad feelings after a few days."
Challenger City Commissioner Brad Wimmer is confident but says he's taking nothing for granted. Monday, the last day of the campaign, he walked neighborhoods, knocked on doors to talk to voters as he has done all during the campaign. He's heard plenty from residents, most of it good. Wimmer said the "strong message that's come out is that it's time for a change."
